I had been waiting with baited breath for this new phone, having (somewhat) enjoyed my Blackberry 8270, but not being fully satisfied. This blog has been meant to capture the new ownership experience with this phone. Now that it’s been a year, it serves to capture the ongoing saga and whatever happens (good or bad).
More about me personally at my personal blog (see www.curtispalmer.com) and my work blog (see www.techbirmingham.com).
Hey…
Nice blog, and I was hoping to relay this news to you…
Magmic Games will tomorrow be launching a new division specifically for Windows Mobile games and the Moto Q.
We’re doing very cool things with Microsoft and and platforms, starting from the Windows Mobile side of things.
Check out our games with free trial downloads at http://www.jetpackgames.com
I’ll send you all reg codes if you’d like (just send me your device owner name so that I can generate them).
I look forward to hearing from you,
Phil.

Hello. I was really into your blog about making my phone into a mobile joukebox. but I don’t understand how the phone works to send the signal to the wireless FM transmitter. Do I need a specific program on the MotoQ. I am totally confused about the radio issue. I don’t currently have an internet package as part of my phone plan so I don’t think I can do the streaming radio either? hmm. Please e-mail me with your thoughts (vsk6e@virginia.edu)

i was thrilled w the features/size/$ of this
item -
HOWEVER … am now on my THIRD phone in three
weeks:
1) mike/earphone nonfxnal – as i had broken arm, didn’t discover for 24hrs (during which i’d spent 5 hrs programming contacts) & was using speakerphone only
vendors’ rsponse: swap out phone
2) 2nd phone worked great for 5 days leaving me in the mtns of oregon when it did a complicated
“dying out” process” leaving me w no phone,
more importantly, no contacts as i’d been unable to back them up prior to leaving.
3) was promised new phone/free copying of contacts upon return – of course, did not happen- blah blah blah.
as had to have phone, took yet another swap as short term solution. natch, am very anxious re reliability of this product & sprint/motorolla
service
??any recs re what i should do??(adv tech at sprint suggested treo as better product, as have several others including mgr at best buy!)
guess i’d love to hear a way to make this product work for me, as my above reasons for purchase still stand – but yipes, obviously
it needs to actually be reliable!!
many thanks

I’ve had my phone since day 5 of its availability with Verizon… no physical issues other than battery life – reliability has been quite good. Hell, I’ve dropped mine and cracked it open a bit… a bit of twist and presto it fit nicely back together and hasn’t missed a beat. I can’t speak for Sprint, but the Motorola side is plenty stable.

I’ve enjoyed my Q for about 6 months now and it’s been working great – until recently. I was having trouble sending email through the Q even though I had no problems receiving it. Had been using Activesync to sync w/ my PC. I took it to the verizon store for help and they had never seen a q that was not using wireless sync. so they set me up with wireless sync and now I am totally confused. I can send and receive email, but my calendar is not syncing. should i stop using active sync and go totally w/ wireless sync? it doesn’t look like wireless sync is sending anything back to my pc.
Any clue what is going on?

the difference between sending and receiving email on the Q is as simple as the difference between a POP server and SMTP server. I’ve got some SMTP accounts that require a separate login from the POP account… that’s the most common cause for confusion. I’d look closer at it before embarking on the wireless sync (which I have heretofore eschewed).
