Mystery Mute on the MotoQ

Today I think I wasted at least an hour in a seemingly futile attempt to resolve what appeared to be an unexplained mute setting on my MotoQ. I could make a phone call without a problem, whether it be normally, on the speakerphone or earbud. BUT, try as I might the dang stereo speakers would not emit sound when playing back an audio note, a sample ringtone, or anything with the Windows Media Player!

I tried every known setting, profile, and even the Accessories control over the speakers… without success. I dug through the Motorola Q Wiki and found nothing. Then, I started scouring the forums for anyone else who had experienced this problem until I found a posting by SONEC on the Phone Scoop website with the following instructions:

For all of you that are experiencing this issue the fix is simple. This is possibly caused because the earpiece volume is turned right down. Simply hold the scroll wheel in for a couple of seconds and you should see the volume bar. You will probably find that it is turned right down, if it is turn it up from here using the scroll wheel. this will fix the problem.

Sure enough, this was the case. My earpiece volume had been reduced to the lowest setting. I am DUMBFOUNDED as to why the earpiece volume setting has ANY control over the stereo speakers, but as I will report soon it also affects the quality of any audio output.

Thanks to SONEC, whoever you are, for saving me from an early trip to the asylum!

–also, check the bitrate at which you transfer/create music files as I try to use anything over 128 bitrate and seem to have solved the music quality issue somewhat. thanks again!

  3. My god… I’ve been without stereo sound for 2 weeks. I’ve gone through every setting, except the darn earpiece volume. You’re right, it makes no sense why it’d have an effect on stereo… :::sigh:::
